Focus On Joy

There was a time when all was dark,

Violence, death, and bruises marked.

Wanted help, but was just a child,

Wanted freedom to run wild.

Trap in a vicious circle of pain,

Endless losses with no gains.

Mentally exhausted, could not think,

Results were poor and turned to drink.

But time goes by whether we like it or not,

A child will grow to join the dots.

They'll remember whilst you've forgot.

It doesn’t matter what you’ve bought,

Hurt still remain in deep thoughts.

But if I chose to only see suffering,

The endless controlling and the smothering.

I would lose the chance to live and be,

I would lose my dreams to my reality.

Everyone carries woes within,

Look closely and the aches begin.

I want to thrive and break the mould,

I don't want to be you when I get old.

So in my growing I saw the light,

Like a seedling, possibilities bright.

Gentle whispers in my ears,

Gentle guidance suddenly appeared.

Find happiness in simples things,

Your time to write, whilst the Robin sings.

Your future lies within your hands,

Focus on joys and watch it expand.

So now I let the darkness go,

The pain still there, but less sorrows.

For how I live is mine to choose,

Free from fear and nothing to lose.
